About J.J.

J. J. Ferrer was born in Wauchula, Florida, and spent the next seventeen years right there in the middle of Mayberry, USA, and Leave It To Beaver-dom. Her early careers goals were to be a cowgirl, a giftwrapper at Ernest’s Department Store, or an airline stewardess. She is thankful that the Lord saw fit instead to imbue her with a passion for words (and commas), because—let’s face it—those other jobs are rough on a girl’s feet.

Known as “the poet laureate of mothers,” J. J. is the author of Dancing with My Daughter, I Am the Mother of Sons,  and A New Mother’s Prayers—three best-selling gift collections of poetry about the bliss and bedlam of motherhood.   Her most recent book is She of the Rib: Women Unwrapped, which salutes the many roles and responsibilities of women and celebrates such joys as loyal girlfriends, a sense of humor, revenge, and a well-timed cup of tea. Besides trying to find a publisher for Moodswing Manifesto, a Truly Fun Read that she and Bunkie finished last summer, J.J.'s current focus includes a novel about two widowed sisters and several speaking engagements she has booked for this fall.

A former advertising copywriter, newspaper columnist, magazine editor, and feature writer, J. J. is a graduate of Mars Hill College, a small liberal arts college tucked in the mountains above Asheville, North Carolina. J. J. fell in love with the Blue Ridge mountains early on and draws much inspiration from their looming presence above her home in Greenville, South Carolina, where she lives with her computer wizard husband, an ever-changing configuration of her three brilliant sons and their friends, one extremely arrogant llama, and a very large dog.
